In this invited article, we provide an overview of the optical control of single-molecule electron sources, highlighting their opportunities and challenges. Optical control of single-molecule electron sources serves as a key tool in the SmoleQ project. Through this article, we outline the current state of this technology and the directions we aim to pursue and develop in the future.
