Title:
3D Modelling of Thermo-Field Electron Emission from Semiconductors

Abstract:
Thermo-field emission (TFE) from semiconductors has been limited to 1D and 2D models. Such restriction results in a partial understanding of the underlying physics of emitting semiconducting surfaces under high electrical fields. Here, I present a 3D model of TFE from semiconductors that can take arbitrary geometries and doping levels. The model successfully reproduces the characteristic saturation plateau of some semiconductors, as well as its dependence with temperature. The numerical results are found to be in very good agreement with experimental data from n-type germanium, silicon, and silicon carbide.
